What Is MOLLE?

One of the most common questions we get is:

“What is MOLLE?”

If you’re coming from the downwind, parawing, surf, or hydrofoil world, there’s a good chance you’ve never encountered it before.

MOLLE (pronounced “Molly”) stands for Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment.

Originally developed for military applications, MOLLE has become one of the most widely used modular attachment systems in the world because it allows equipment to be securely mounted, repositioned, removed, and reconfigured as needs change.

At its core, MOLLE is simply a standardized way of attaching gear to other gear.

What Is PALS?

PALS stands for Pouch Attachment Ladder System.

Those rows of webbing found on packs, pouches, chest rigs, and other equipment are technically called PALS webbing.

Most people simply refer to the entire system as MOLLE.

The OCR Platform utilizes a laser-cut interpretation of this system, allowing users to securely attach compatible pouches, accessories, and equipment without permanently committing to a single configuration.

Why Does FAED Use MOLLE?

Because offshore needs constantly change.

A short harbor run may require a completely different setup than a long crossing.

Some days you may prioritize hydration.

Other days you may need additional storage, communication equipment, safety gear, or parawing carry capability.

Rather than forcing every user into a fixed solution, the OCR Platform was designed as a modular foundation that can evolve with changing missions, conditions, and personal preferences.

How It Works

Compatible accessories are attached by weaving mounting straps through the MOLLE slots on both the pouch and the platform.

This creates a secure connection that resists movement while allowing equipment to be repositioned or replaced as needed.

Once installed correctly, MOLLE-mounted accessories remain surprisingly stable even in dynamic offshore environments.

Building Your System

The OCR Platform was never intended to be a finished setup.

It was designed as a foundation.

Whether you’re carrying hydration, communication equipment, safety gear, utility pouches, parawings, or a combination of all of the above, the goal remains the same:

Build the setup that works for you.

Different setups. Same foundation.
